The Paisano

For me

For some, depression comes in waves of shame

Things they’ve done,

Mistakes they’ve made

For me, it comes in the weight of not wanting to be who I am.

Living my life day by day

It’s the shift of the winds that forces me to be someone I’m not

For me, it’s the sadness of what will never be

What’s outgrown me and moved on for me

I fear those who stand alone are the only ones who know

So today, underneath my skin is all you’ll read

Because I thought it used to mean something

But it doesn’t.

For now, we are not the same.

For now, it’s for me.
