“Saturday Night Live” is an American late-night sketch comedy series featuring a celebrity host and musical guest. The program has been successful since its debut in 1975 and has featured some of the biggest names in Hollywood. 

        Despite its achievements, SNL has had many controversial moments and sketches that sometimes include jokes some viewers may find offensive. Their latest episode brought a negative response from actor Aimee Lou Wood and SNL fans.

       One of their recent comedy sketches, “The White Potus,” featured Donald Trump, played by James Austin Johnson, in a political spin off of “The White Lotus” and included many characters, such as Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. The skit mocked Trump and his tariffs by parodying people in his cabinet.

       In the sketch, Kennedy, played by Jon Hamm, mentions fluoride to Sarah Sherman who was playing Wood’s “The White Lotus” character, Chelsea. In the sketch, Sherman has a terrible British accent and wears offensive and extreme prosthetic teeth.  The sketch did not get too many laughs from Wood.

      Wood later posted on her Instagram, “I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny. Yes, take the piss for sure — that’s what the show is about — but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?” 

      Many of her supporters and friends felt the same way, as she later posted, “On a positive note, everyone is agreeing with me about it, so I’m glad I said something instead of going in on myself.” 

     The actor has received numerous comments and questions about her teeth and has mentioned on multiple occasions how she dislikes discussing them. 

      Everyone has something about them that makes them unique, and one can only imagine how hard it is to not accommodate to Hollywood expectations when they are pushed so heavily, especially women. Wood is one of many women who have been depicted by the things that make them special, and SNL should not use those qualities to make fun of someone for a cheap laugh.
