Brad Simpson’s trial is ongoing, as more evidence is still being found and built against Brad. He currently faces three felony charges, including unlawful restraint, tampering with evidence, possessing a prohibited weapon and murder. It has been over six months since his wife Suzanne Clark Simpson’s disappearance and since Brad has been in police custody.
Suzanne disappeared on Oct. 6, 2024, and her body is still missing after months of searching. Prosecutors and the police allege Brad is the one responsible for her murder due to his suspicious activity at the time of her disappearance. With purchases on Oct. 7, one day after her disappearance, of a construction bucket with a lid, two big bags of concrete, heavy-duty trash bags, Clorox disinfectant spray and insect repellent. Additionally, there is surveillance footage of Brad seen with trash bags resembling a human body, a trashcan and an ice bucket in the back of his truck the day after her disappearance. According to Kens5 Brad was also accused of hiding a motorized saw that tested positive for Suzanne’s DNA.
Since then, his lawyers have attempted to get his murder indictment removed. Their defense is that the manner and cause of her death are still not known to the jury and that a proper verdict cannot be decided based on the unknown. In refutation, the prosecution has argued they do not need to verify how he murdered Suzanne, only that he had the intent to commit the crime.
Brad could be found guilty of all the following charges, which will all accumulate to him facing a total of five to 99 years or a life sentence in prison. To start with, one second-degree felony — tampering with a corpse — faces two to 20 years in prison. Two third-degree felonies of tampering with physical evidence and possession of a prohibited weapon face two to 10 years in prison.
Both parties will return to court on April 29, marking the second court appearance in 2025 since Brad was arrested back in October. Judge Perez will give a ruling on the case, but a trial date for the murder charge has yet to be set.
