After defeating East Carolina University earlier this season, UTSA football clinched its sixth consecutive bowl berth. Conference USA announced on X that the Roadrunners are taking on Florida International University at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
The ‘Runners are no strangers to the Panthers, having faced off four times in the nine years both teams were in C-USA. With the series record tied 2-2, UTSA aims to secure both a series lead and its sixth-straight winning season under head coach Jeff Traylor. Florida International is riding a four-game win streak and sits at 7-5 overall, good enough for fifth place in C-USA.
“I know [Panthers head coach Willie Simmons] is doing a really good job,” Traylor said. “They’re playing their best football right now.”
Sophomore defensive lineman Daemian Wimberly and sophomore defensive back Davin Martin are the first two Roadrunner starters to enter the transfer portal, posing the question of how complete the ‘Runners’ roster will be when UTSA and Florida International face off later this month. When questioned on the subject, Traylor claimed he doesn’t know and that he “doesn’t know if anyone knows anymore.”
It’s been a rough year for the Roadrunners, but they’ll have a chance to go out on a high note — one they can hopefully carry into 2026.
