UTSA soccer falls short to TCU, 2-1

The Texas Christian University (TCU) Horned Frogs (8-1-1) handed the Roadrunners (3-7) their fourth consecutive loss Sunday at the UTSA Recreational Sports Complex, 2-1.

The Runners were kept on their heels by the TCU offensive attack as they controlled the ball the majority of the contest.

Forward Lizzy Karoly gave the Horned Frogs their first score on a header that slipped past UTSA Goalkeeper Nicoline Joergensen in the 18th minute of the first half. Nine minutes later, a 25-yard strike from TCU’s Jackie Torda gave the Horned Frogs a 2-0 cushion.

However, with five minutes left in the half, UTSA quickly countered with a score from Halee Hamm on a cornerkick from Celeste Carruth cutting TCU’s lead to 2-1.

The first half saw TCU putting up 20 shots on goal (SOG) to UTSA’s five.

The Runners’ defense tightened up in the second half allowing only 11 SOG.

Intensity of the match picked up as several fouls were given out including a Yellow Card to junior Celeste Carruth.

Despite the high level of play by UTSA in the second half, the Runners fell short, 2-1.

UTSA begins conference play Oct. 3, when they take on Lamar in Beaumont.
