Former Mayor running for Bexar County judge
Ron Nirenberg, former San Antonio mayor, announced his bid for Bexar County judge public on Saturday. Nirenberg will run against Peter Sakai, who has held the position since 2023. Nirenberg says that his eight years as mayor gave him a clear outlook on local issues and their necessary solutions. He announced that as judge, he would focus on public safety, environmental protection and maximizing local resources among other issues.
SAPD union criticizes conduct of Chief McManus
Following the acquittal of three former officers charged after the death of Melissa Perez, the San Antonio Police Department union sent out a letter admonishing police Chief William McManus’ conduct in the incident. Danny Diaz, president of the San Antonio Police Officers’ Association, called his actions “politically motivated.” The union will decide whether or not to put up a vote of no confidence in the police chief.
Families find new homes after fire
Following a fire last week on the Northwest side that displaced numerous families, donations from the local community have helped the affected individuals. In addition to donations, the Avistar complex that caught fire, on the Boulevard, provided the families with new units to relocate to as their building was unsalvageable. The families are still replacing lost items but are currently housed and fed.
