UT San Antonio climbs ranks of research institutions
UT San Antonio — a year after merging with UT Health San Antonio — ranked in the top 2.3% of U.S. institutions based on National Institutes of Health funding. The merged campus was awarded $147,098,904 in NIL funding for 2025. The funding landed UT San Antonio No. 64 out of 2,702 institutions. UT San Antonio’s Senior Executive Vice President for Health Affairs and Health System Francisco Cigarroa deemed the ranking a landmark for the university.
Overturned truck catches fire, killing driver
A truck towing another truck struck a safety barrier on southbound Highway 281, overturning both vehicles and catching fire. One driver, who did not sustain any life-threatening injuries, was pulled from the fire and taken to University Hospital. The other driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor; witnesses suspect road rage because prior to the crash they heard a honking exchange occurred.
Game 4 Spurs win sparks parades in city streets
Following the San Antonio Spurs’ 19-point comeback win against the Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonians took to the streets to celebrate the victory that put the team up 3-1 in the series. Spurs fans stormed Southwest Military Drive in particular. Social media footage captured cars honking and people waving Spurs flags amid heavy traffic. One video shows the Little Caesars mascot waving a Spurs banner on the sidewalk in front of the pizza shop.
