Women have become more aware of modern gender-based violence and inequalities via social media. Modern society is seeing a growing gender polarization: women turning more feminist and men growing further towards red pill, conservative views against women’s rights and liberties.
A recent global study by King’s College London went viral after reporting that Generation Z men were twice as likely to hold misogynistic views compared to baby boomers. The study of 23,000 gen z men showed that 31% believe that wives should always obey their husbands and 33% believe husbands should have a final say in decision making. Only 13% and 17% of baby boomers agree with this world view. What is baffling is that men complain on social media about the “male loneliness epidemic,” yet many fail to listen to women’s needs. Many claim that women are unrealistic and seek money and height, but statistics show that women prioritize character qualities above all.
According to Pew Research Center, women are progressively outpacing men in education across all racial groups. For the first time in history, women are attending law schools, med schools and vet schools at a higher rate than men. This brings uncertainty in the dating pool, as women tend to desire more educated men.
As a result of these polarizing trends, the Korean 4B movement — a feminist campaign where women abstain from intimacy, relationships and marriage — grew substantially more popular in the U.S. Many women who are not directly part of the movement see marriage as having little benefit and as a high risk investment. This conclusion stems from safety and support concerns. Statistics show that over half of U.S. women aged 20-30 remain childfree, often reporting lack of desire for children due to personal preference, financial reasons or lack of good support from romantic partners and family.
The growing divide between genders is not just an internet hoax; it is a societal issue that does not benefit either side.
To all women: in times like these, when human rights are questioned and considered “too much,” quiet acceptance is not the answer. Education is the cure to some fundamental societal issues, which is why many women across the globe today do not have access to such privilege. Women should continue to seek education, protect their financial liberty and never allow anyone to undermine their freedoms. To all men: women do not hate you; they want you to listen and step up for mothers, sisters and friends. Women are tired from the inaction and the normalization of inequality, which worsens the rapid divide between genders.
