National Women’s Soccer League team, the Kansas City Current, is set to debut their new stadium to the public on March 23 where the team will play its first match against the San Diego Wave.

Co-owned and privately financed by Chris and Angie Long and Brittany Mahomes, Canadian Pacific Kansas City Stadium is the first stadium ever to be built solely for the single use of a women’s professional sports team. All 12 NWSL teams from the 2023 season share stadiums with professional and unprofessional surrounding teams within their area.

In the past, the Current played at a soccer-specific stadium, Children’s Mercy Park, which they shared with Major League Soccer team, Sporting Kansas City. The Current have also opened their own private training facility that lies just seven miles away from the stadium itself.

CPKC Stadium will be able to house 11,500 fans per match, will have 12 suits along with an owners suite and currently has partnerships with 10 different restaurants to vend at the stadium.

This marks a huge step forward for female athletes as it provides not only security to a women’s professional team but marks a historical turning point as one women’s professional sports team builds its first permanent home.
