Soccer secures first win during double-overtime

Senior Halee Hamm gave UTSA its first win of the season with her golden goal, as the Roadrunners defeated Houston, 2-1, in double overtime at Robertson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Hamm beat Houston’s goalie in a one-on-one situation for the game-winning goal in the second extra frame. Freshman Clara Jakubowski was credited with her first assist of the season on the play.

In the first extra period the Cougars had two chances to end the match, but freshman goalkeeper Dacia Webb stopped both attempts to preserve the 1-1 tie and send the contest into the second overtime.

Houston goalkeeper Lauren Frazier made a diving save off sophomore Taylor Padia’s shot attempt late in the first half, but senior Jenny Munoz capitalized by grabbing the loose ball and putting it in the back of the net from 10 yards out to give UTSA the 1-0 advantage at the 38-minute mark.

The Cougars tied the match when Avery Blasi knocked the ball in off a rebound in the first two minutes of the second half.

Junior Chelsea Zimmerman had a chance to win the match for the Roadrunners late in regulation, but her header was just wide left with less than three minutes to go.

Webb posted seven saves on 18 shot attempts, while allowing one goal. Junior Allison Dillon and Hamm led UTSA’s offense with three shots apiece and Padia and Jakubowski each collected an assist on the day.

UTSA hits the road for a pair of matches at TCU on Aug. 28 and Texas A&M two days later.
