This week’s topics range from the Pro-Project Marvel Rally to the high-spiking covid variant in Texas.
On Saturday, Sept. 6, from 6-8 p.m., the San Antonio Spurs organization hosted a rally in favor of Proposal A and B on the November ballot to create new facilities and a Spurs Stadium. The “Win Together” event took place at Idle Beer Hall & Brewery at 414 Brooklyn Avenue — the potential location for the new stadium and facilities if approved. This rally is the first to promote Project Marvel to the city and gain favor from the community.
State emergency resources activated for potential flood threats
Between Sept. 7-8, South and South Central Texas anticipated heavy rain. As a precaution, the Texas Division of Emergency Management released resources to any local operation in need of assistance. These resources include, but are not limited to, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas National Guard and the Texas Emergency Medical Task Force.
High-spiking Covid-19 variant in Texas
The Centers of Disease Control have identified “Stratus” as a new Covid-19 variant. It has been observed in Central Texas. The CDC has determined that analyzing wastewater is more effective for identifying diseases than when people go to a doctor or hospital. The risk levels in central Texas for this new strain are noticeably higher in cities such as Austin or Dallas. This variant makes up 71% of the cases nationwide. The CDC recommends staying up to date with vaccines to more effectively protect oneself.
