At the UT San Antonio Student Government Association’s second general assembly, the organization discussed services offered to students, recommendations made to aid student’s mental well-being and future events on campus. The session also featured the Senior Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students LaTonya Robinson as a guest speaker.
The session commenced at 5:30 p.m., and Speaker of the Senate Alexander Hennel introduced Robinson, the guest speaker for the meeting. Robinson used her time to highlight the work of the Expressive Activity Response Team and promote the use of different services available to students around campus, such as Wellness360 and the Roadrunner pantry.
Student Body President Briana Miller spoke about the University Career Center, drawing attention to the resources it provides students, including the professional photo booth and the different career fairs it hosts.
The SGA advisor, Chantea’ Swinson-Rhoe, then talked about the Leader Fund applications. They are currently open, and she encouraged all student organizations to apply for the leader fund to receive funding to host various events across campus. The form is available on RowdyLink under the SGA’s page.
Robinson also spotlighted the Enhancing Wellbeing Policy Group that she co-chaired, which was tasked with recommending changes and additions at UT San Antonio to help provide more support for students. Some of the changes recommended were incorporating a fall break – which was approved — updating the HOP 5.09 Class Attendance Policy to include exemptions like medical emergencies or natural disasters and creating a campus-wide event day emphasizing well-being, where clubs and organizations could host activities to “reduce stress, practice coping skills, and learn about existing campus resources.” The first well-being day will be on Oct. 22.
Hennel took the stand again and highlighted future events coming up in the dining hall — Vegetarian Day on Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a cooking class on Oct. 6 from 10 to 11 a.m.
Swinson-Rhoe also highlighted the upcoming market fundraisers that will occur on campus and National Night Out. The market fundraisers are events where different student clubs and organizations can make and sell items to the student body. The two dates for these events are Oct. 21 and Nov. 4., while National Night Out, hosted by the campus police, is a state alcohol awareness and prevention event on Oct. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 6:25 p.m., and the SGA encouraged all students to participate in the spirit week during Homecoming. They encouraged students to check out the Homecoming website for more information on those events.
